Aftter having a worldwide hit, appearing on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno', winning two Junos, appearing on "Melrose Place" and touring the world, Canadian singer-songwriter Tal Bachman vanished around the year 2000.
For years, rumours have swirled concerning his whereabouts. Some reports had him playing professional rugby in France. Others had him living alone - like the Unabomber - in a makeshift cabin on Crown land somewhere on Vancouver Island. Others had him fighting in Afghanistan, poncing dandily around London nightclubs, whalehunting off the coast of Japan, and co-managing a game preserve in South Africa.
And then, in September 2011, he appeared - just for one night - in front of 20,000 screaming girls at Roger Arena in Vancouver, performing with Taylor Swift. Rave reviews followed along with a very public shout out from Taylor herself at the next Country Music Awards, and yet...inexplicably and just as quickly...Bachman vanished again. Why? No one knows.
Now, for reasons just as mysterious, Bachman - like that snow leopard on BBC Planet Earth - is coming out of hiding again - this time, to play a few quiet, private shows in the Okanagan Valley. Maybe he just trusts us Home Girls Shirley, Sandy and Tanya, who invited him. Maybe he wants to try out new material. We don't know.
Nor do we know if he'll ever play again, or what will actually happen during these house concerts. We don't know what songs he'll play or cover, what tawdry, titillating stories he might confidentially reveal about Taylor Swift, Katie Holmes, Neil Young, Eddie Van Halen or any of the other people he's friendly with...or what Jerry-Springer-like personal confessions he might make about himself. No doubt, Bachman himself doesn't even know.
Long story short, this Tal Bachman House Concert could be the most spectacularly horrific concert you've ever been to....or.....the most moving/good/memorable. So, as Clint Eastwood once said, the question you really have to ask yourself is..."do you feel lucky?"
I do, and that's why I've invited Tal to play here. If tickets are sold out by the time you read this, please email me next week in case there have been cancellations. We will try to accommodate as many as we can.
